Saving America one Tradesperson at a time

What is Rick’s Run?

Rick’s Run Inc. is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization operating with the sole purpose of raising money to supply scholarships through the Rick Nelson Memorial Skilled Trades Scholarship Fund to deserving graduating seniors in Walworth County that wish to enter into an education with the outcome being a career in the skilled trades.

Now that the formal intro is done, here’s the reason this organization exists. Rick Nelson was a member of the Delavan/Darien and Elkhorn communities all of his life. He attended school in Delavan/Darien graduating in 1986. All of the jobs Rick held were inside both of these communities working as a Bus Boy, Cook, Chef, Parts Clerk, and Auto Mechanic. He, along with his wife Amy who was a local girl as well, owned 2 businesses in Walworth County, Nelson’s Corners Inn in Darien, and Midtown Auto in Elkhorn. Both places of business gave back to the communities they operated in every chance they got. Rick could be counted on to support any worthwhile cause that came through his door and asked for his help. He would also do the same for any person in need. Rick gave of his time to help so many and never really asked for anything in return except for maybe a Limon and Coke the next time you saw him. His ability to fix a car, truck, snowmobile, motorcycle, lawnmower, or anything else with an engine was a true gift. Rick Nelson unexpectedly passed away on January 11th of 2011 at the age of 42. He left behind his wife Amy, his daughter Sam, 4 siblings, and thousands of people in Walworth County whose lives he touched. This organization was formed to continue to give back to these communities as Rick would have done if he were still with us.

Thank you for your support of this worthwhile cause, it is greatly appreciated!!! The man with the drink in his hand, straw bent over, and the flat top haircut thanks you as well.
